At Wilton Carpets Commercial, we design and weave commercial carpet of superb quality - providing axminster, tufted and wilton carpets to suit all hospitality environments.

Although rooted in our historic Wilton site, home of the pioneers of English weaving, we like to believe our forbears would be justly proud of our contemporary axminster designs gracing hotels, bars, casinos, clubs, cruise ships as well as stately homes in the UK, Europe, Middle East and US.

Innovative Design

Factory - inspection of thistle, Grand Central HotelOur Design Studio works closely with commercial interior designers; tracking emerging design trends to ensure our carpet designs and hues beautifully complement today's interior design. For each bespoke project, our mission is to create innovative and inspirational design that is sympathetic with the overall interior. And it is from these inspirations that popular themes emerge for our Ready to Go collections.

A Passion for Excellence

Our people are united in their passion, pride and commitment to providing carpets of exceptional quality and in going the extra mile to meet customer needs. With many staff who are second or even third generation employees at the factory, it is the expertise of individuals united by a strong sense of teamwork that enables us to provide a fast and flexible service to our customers.

Ethical Approach

We strive to be open, honest and ethical in how we work - with our customers, our staff and our suppliers - and in our approach to the environment. This approach brings us loyalty in our workforce and with our customers - for one of our customers, our company has been providing carpet for over 100 years! Our factory environment is home to wildfowl that breed on the three chalk-bedded rivers that straddle our site as well as salmon, trout, water voles and otters. Our respect for the environment is carried through in the way we work. For more information, see our Environmental Policy.

British Made

We are proud of our British heritage and continue to source the finest British yarns for our wool-rich axminster, tufted and wilton carpets and rugs. We work to the highest quality standards, with BS EN Certification on every carpet we manufacture; and all our Axminster is Wheelmark Approved and IMO Certified.

Wilton Carpets Timeline

  • 1699 William III grants charter to Clothiers and Weavers of Wilton.
  • Early 1700s A Flemish Huguenot weaver flees the Low Countries and invents the Wilton weaving process in Wilton. The first weaving shed is set up in what is now one of the oldest industrial sites in the world.
  • 1835 Less than 100 miles from Wilton is another world famous name in carpet weaving - Axminster. In 1835 the original factory suffered a calamitous fire which stopped all production. The then owners of Wilton acquired all the machinery from that site and commenced the weaving of axminster carpeting. To this day the majority of the production made by Wilton Carpets is actually axminster weave.
  • 1851 Carpets made for Queen Victoria shown at Great Exhibition.
  • 1908 Visit by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
  • 1939-45 Carpet making ceases in order to support the war effort, making camouflage, kitbags and tarpaulins.
  • 1957 New weaving shed built to house new Gripper Axminster Looms.
  • 1958 Axminster carpet produced for Guildford Cathedral.
  • Early 1990s After several changes of ownership, the company was run down when it was purchased by an American group.
  • 1995 The company was taken into British private ownership, with much needed investment and direction, enabling The Wilton Carpet Factory Ltd to develop into a company designing and weaving commercial carpets for hospitality and leisure sector installations in 30 countries, including Canada and the USA.
  • 2011 Several ranges of commercial tufted carpet launched to complement axminster and wilton weave carpets.
